Asbury~Solomons Island Fact Sheet 

1. Established in 1996, Asbury~Solomons Island is part of Asbury, the 15th largest not-for-profit system of continuing care retirement communities in the United States, operating five communities in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. It offers adults a vibrant retirement lifestyle paired with a secure plan for the future.

2. Asbury~Solomons Island is the only accredited continuing care retirement community in Southern Maryland.

3. More than 450 people age 60 plus reside here.

4. With 210 associates, Asbury~Solomons Island is a major employer in the Calvert County area. Many associates serve in hospitality-related or health-care positions.

5. Asbury~Solomons Island generates annual revenues of approximately $18 million, which includes earnings on investments as well as contributions and fees generated from residents.

6. Residents of Asbury~Solomons Island have access to the community’s Benevolent Care program, which provides support for residents who deplete their financial resources through no fault of their own. Since its founding in 1996, Asbury Solomons has never asked a resident to leave due to inability to pay.

7. The community includes 228 apartment homes, 72 cottage homes, 24 assisted living suites and 48 skilled-care accommodations, both private and shared. The 24-hour skilled center is Medicare- and Medicaid-certified, with 40 of the 48 beds reserved for the exclusive use of Asbury residents.

8. Bethany Village’s residential living options include 24 floor plans with a wide range of prices and entrance fees. All residences offer maintenance-free living.


9. Located on 58 acres along the banks of the Patuxent River, the campus has walking trails, fishing and crabbing piers and beautifully maintained grounds and resident gardens. Its facilities include a fitness center with indoor pool and spa, full-service bank, two salons, and a choice of dining venues.

10. The Community Center is a focal point of campus life, with a computer room and library, billiards, arts and crafts rooms, wood and metalworking shops, multi-purpose auditorium and meeting rooms.

11. All Asbury campuses utilize the HealthAbility lifestyle program, where residents work with associates to develop a plan based on six components of wellness — physical, intellectual, spiritual, vocational, emotional and social.
